How to Plan for a Microwave in a Kitchen Remodel

For years, you’ve managed to get by with your microwave sitting on your countertop. Now that it’s time for a kitchen remodel, you can get that microwave off your countertop and into a designated space. You’ll have more space for food preparation and a more attractive kitchen.
Here are some tips to remember:

  1. Determine your microwave type. Full-sized models can prepare more food; compact models help save space, but don’t cook as efficiently.
  2. Consider who will use your microwave. If it’s you and your spouse, anywhere in the kitchen is fine. But if you want your kids to have access, it may not be a good idea to install the microwave over the stove.
  3. Place the microwave away from your cook top. Design your new kitchen so you can have open counter space next to your cook top; place your microwave preferably near the refrigerator.
  4. Place your microwave at eye level when you install it over your cook top. Be aware that you’ll need to run a vent outside the kitchen for the microwave.
  5. Replace your double wall oven with a microwave double wall oven. You’ll still be able to access the doors outside the cabinetry. Typically, the microwave sits on top of the oven.

Do you feel like there are too many choices and designing your kitchen seems like an overwhelming task? Try these tips for successful slow cooking:

  • Always defrost meats and poultry before placing them in the slow cooker.
  • Layer ingredients, putting vegetables in the bottom and meat on the top.
