An Incredible Force

Dear Friends,

Like so many others, I needed to pause and reflect on the woman, her work and her thoughts on these times.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of gender equality, leader of human rights and a national treasure died over the weekend. She was 87 and left a legacy that greatly impacted the lives of millions of people.

The New York Times produced a beautiful video of her life and work. View it here.

Three of my favorite quotes by Justice Ginsburg:

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

“One thing that I did feel in law school was that if I flubbed, that I would be bringing down my entire sex. That you weren’t just failing for yourself, but people would say, ‘Well, I did expect it of a woman.’ … I was determined not to leave that impression.”

“If you have a caring life partner, you help the other person when that person needs it. I had a life partner who thought my work was as important as his, and I think that made all the difference for me.”

If you have a minute to pause and reflect on her tireless efforts, please embrace the sentiment.

Go for Bold.

This is where we highlight champions, doing the good work- the right work.

Thank you to Justice Bader Ruth Ginsburg or The Notorious BRG as pop culture coined her for 50+ years of service. She was the second woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. We are mighty proud to have had her leadership.

How to Plan for a Microwave in a Kitchen Remodel

Blog, Cooking, Remodeling, Specials  Comments Off on How to Plan for a Microwave in a Kitchen Remodel
Sep 082011

By Kristan Hart

For years, you’ve managed to get by with your microwave sitting on your countertop. Now that it’s time for a kitchen remodel, you can get that microwave off your countertop and into a designated space. You’ll have more space for food preparation and a more attractive kitchen.
Here are some tips to remember:

  1. Determine your microwave type. Full-sized models can prepare more food; compact models help save space, but don’t cook as efficiently.
  2. Consider who will use your microwave. If it’s you and your spouse, anywhere in the kitchen is fine. But if you want your kids to have access, it may not be a good idea to install the microwave over the stove.
  3. Place the microwave away from your cook top. Design your new kitchen so you can have open counter space next to your cook top; place your microwave preferably near the refrigerator.
  4. Place your microwave at eye level when you install it over your cook top. Be aware that you’ll need to run a vent outside the kitchen for the microwave.
  5. Replace your double wall oven with a microwave double wall oven. You’ll still be able to access the doors outside the cabinetry. Typically, the microwave sits on top of the oven.

Do you feel like there are too many choices and designing your kitchen seems like an overwhelming task? Consider working with a professional like Betty Nairn a Certified Kitchen Designer at Cabinet-S-Top (1977 Medina Road, Medina – 330-239-3630). To help you save money Cabinet-S-Top is offering a FREE over the range microwave with a $10,000 kitchen remodel. Act now, offer ends September 30, 2011.

“Rainmaker Insights”: Tips on Developing a Solid Marketing Strategy Unique to Your Brand

Blog, Marketing  Comments Off on “Rainmaker Insights”: Tips on Developing a Solid Marketing Strategy Unique to Your Brand
Sep 022011

By Emily M. Kelly, CEO of Rainmaker Consulting, Fairlawn, Ohio.

In the last issue, we talked about starting with a firm foundation driven by a vision [statement] for your business. This month, I want to talk with you about the next step in forecasting a strong business plan unique to your brand. And that starts with defining your target market.

I meet with small business owners on a regular basis and I am continually shocked at how few actually have in mind who their ideal customer is. A potential client told me recently, “I sell to commercial and residential, so everyone is my target market.” Statistics show that on average ONE in TEN small businesses have a defined target market. Of the other nine, six of them go out of business within the first year  – compelling evidence that should drive every small business owner to examine “who their ideal customer is.”

Don’t think of it as who COULD I sell to … think of it as “who do I WANT to sell to?” Who is the ideal person that needs what I have to offer, can afford it, will pay what I want to charge, on time and be grateful for my help? Many small business owners try to catch “everyone” and spend an enormous amount of time, energy, effort and money driving at the general population hoping to “catch” a client. I believe that you can spend less time, energy, effort and money by first defining who it is that you are trying to “catch.” I often say, if you think of marketing as a fishing trip, the target market is what kind of fish you want to catch, the branding is the lure, the message is the bait and the channels are the body of water you choose to “fish in”.

If you don’t care what kind of “fish you catch”, you can cast your line into the ocean all day and maybe you’ll catch something. But if you want to catch trout, it’s a whole lot easier when you go to a lake stocked with trout and use the bait and lure that trout like. Your results will be even more fruitful if you do it during their feeding time.

We will talk more next time about “where to fish,” “what bait to use” and when the “feeding times are” … but for now, I encourage you to evaluate who buys from your brand the most. What gender, what age, what geographic location, what lifestyle, what income level?  All of these criteria help you come up with your ideal client.

As always, I am wishing you all the very best. You can read more about Rainmaker’s Insights on my blog:
